O’Sullivan and Wynn have reaffirmed their multi-year collaboration with the legendary snooker player finally invited to be an official ambassador for the company
Wynn Macau Ltd has named Ronnie O’Sullivan as an Official Brand Ambassador. The legendary snooker player is now going to carry on and participate in joint social media activations with his new partner and represent the brand during games and tournaments.
He will make a return to the world of snooker on December 25-28 at the Wynn Presents – 2024 Macau Snooker Masters, an event backed by Wynn as the name suggests.
Wynn Macau and O’Sullivan Continue Amicable Rapport with Ambassadorship
O’Sullivan has been distinguished as one of the lodestars of the sport, having won the World Snooker Champions seven times, and he is one of the most recognizable names not just in snooker, but also in sport in general.
The opportunity to team up with one of the icons of the snooker world was readily welcomed by Wynn Macau president, vice chair and executive director Linda Chen who said that she was thrilled to welcome O’Sullivan to the Wynn Brand Ambassador family, helping increase the popularity of both the Wynn Macau brand, but similarly of snooker in general.
For his part, O’Sullivan replied in a similarly positive tone, arguing that he was indeed flattered to have been extended this opportunity and work with Wynn Macau on building the popularity of snooker. The tie-up between these two is not a chance event either.
O’Sullivan and Wynn have been collaborating on a number of snooker events over the past years, with an ambassadorship almost certain. O’Sullivan has been happy to travel and participate in many Wynn-backed events, including the 2023 Macau Snooker Masters and the Rising Star Exhibition Game which was hosted earlier this year.
Snooker’s Popularity on an Upswing
The upcoming Wynn Presents snooker tournament will bring some of the best players in the world, with O’Sullivan playing as a Wynn Ambassador for the very first time. He is the favorite based on oddsmakers predictions and will run in a field of eight competitors.
The participants include Judd Trump, Stuart Bingham, Kyren Wilson, Si Jia Hui, Ding Jun Hui, Jack Lisowski, Marco Fu, and others.
Snooker has been a sport of resurgent popularity, but recent scandals in the professional scene have shed light on some of its murkier aspects, including the involvement of top-tier players in match-fixing scandals. In the meantime, Wynn’s desire to host more events is not surprising.
As the company said when the Wynn Presents was announced, Wynn is looking to fall in with the city’s ambition to diversify its offer and push beyond gambling and gaming. Macau has been urged by Beijing to diversify its economy and end its reliance on the sector, with more sports events, including Formula 1 races and snooker competitions now on the calendar.
The upcoming Macau Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, November 17, 2024.
