The two cases involved a theft near a gambling property and a shooting at the alleged site of an underground casino
Authorities have reported two instances of gun-related crime in Indiana and California. While the incident in the former state has so far been mostly harmless, the one in the latter left one man dead.
Guns Stolen at Casino Parking Lot
The first case happened at the north parking lot of Bally’s Evansville Casino & Hotel. According to reports, an unidentified thief broke into cars that were parked at the property, stealing privately owned guns.
According to the authorities, the perpetrator stole two loaded 9mm pistols. One of them was taken from a Dodge Charger that had its left window broken by the criminals. The other one was taken from a Fort Fusion the left window of which had been removed by the robber.
The authorities understood that the thefts took place at 2 am on Friday. As of the time of this writing, the suspect is still unknown and yet to be captured.
Man Killed at Site of Alleged Underground Casino
While the first case involved stolen guns, the other one saw guns actually being fired. At around 8 pm on Saturday, a man at the Salvimex Restaurant on South Vermont Avenue in Gardena was shot dead.
The shooter and the victim, who were both regulars at the restaurant, were sitting at different tables just before the incident occurred. At one point, the perpetrator stood up, approached the victim and shot him without warning. Soon after that, the shooter, who was described as a middle-aged man, fled from the scene via car.
The authorities’ information about the two men is scarce and no certain connection between the two men could be drawn.
However, authorities have reasons to believe that the restaurant in question might have been housing an illegal casino. Because of that, some suspect that gang violence might be involved.
