While one winner recently hit a $100,000 Powerball win, another fortunate player won $200,000 from a scratch-off game
An incredibly fortunate player from Alabama, who recently visited North Carolina, scored a six-figure prize from a recent Powerball drawing.
The lucky man identified as Christopher Baker from Leesburg, Alabama, visited the North Carolina Education Lottery Wednesday to collect his sweet $100,000 Powerball prize.
The man recently visited North Carolina for work and tried his luck by purchasing a ticket for Saturday’s drawing. Baker purchased the winning ticket from Jack B Quick on Old N.C. 10 in Hickory.
The Leesburg man matched four white balls along with the red Powerball on last weekend’s drawing. Although Baker was due to receive $50,000 for his guess, he purchased a Power Play ticket that enabled him to benefit from the draw’s multiplier, which was 2x, increasing his payout to $100,000.
Considering that state and federal taxes apply to lottery winnings, the lucky man collected a sum that was nearly $72,000. When asked what he plans to do with the five-figure sum Baker admitted that he will save it and use it for a future purchase of a house.
Asked about the time he realized he had just won $100,000, the lucky winner said the win “was definitely a shocker.” Baker joked that he couldn’t believe it at first which is why he checked the ticket again. “I told my family but they didn’t believe me either,” he revealed.
Currently, lottery players in North Carolina who want to participate in Powerball can purchase tickets either via the Lottery’s website or mobile applications. Lottery fans who prefer physical tickets can buy them across the state from different retail outlets.
A Woman from Clinton Scores $200K Scratch-off Ticket Win
Besides the player from Alabama who scooped up the hefty $100,000 prize, one local player recently secured a major win. Celsa Lopez Paz, a woman from Clinton, North Carolina, recently purchased a $5 scratch-off ticket for the Lottery’s popular Red Hot Slots game.
Little did the woman know that she would land one of the top prizes from the popular scratch-off game. After trying her luck, Paz won $200,000 from the $5 ticket. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,461,660 and after the recent win, three such prizes are remaining.
Earlier this week, Paz visited the Lottery headquarters to collect her winnings. After the applicable federal and state taxes, the fortunate woman collected $143,000.
According to the Lottery, Paz purchased her winning ticket from Tropicana Supermarket on Southeast Boulevard in Clinton.
The overall odds of winning a prize from the Red Hot Slots scratch-off game are 1 in 4.25. The game launched back on May 7, 2024, and it grants players a chance for a prize between $5 and $200,000.
