Florida continues to crack down on illegal gambling, with individual land-based businesses targeted by the state’s gambling regulator
Three locations in Tallahassee were targeted as a part of an investigation led by the Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC) in collaboration with Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol.
Two Indian Nationals Arrested in Latest Florida Illegal Gambling Bust
Investigators obtained more than 100 gambling machines that were operated without a license from the locations on Tuesday this week. Authorities have not released the names of the businesses involved, nor have they provided additional details immediately.
According to other sources, however, two of the suspects were from India, and they had operated the businesses illegally in the state. Based on the secondary report, around $20,000 was found in cash and seized by the authorities across the three venues.
The suspects are said to have been charged with running an illegal gambling house and illegally possessing slot machines.
Indian nationals have long been associated with running small-time illegal businesses such as the ones busted in Tallahassee across Florida, Texas, and California, with the owners of such businesses often targeting migrants from their own country.
Illegal Gambling Continues to Be Targeted in Florida
Crackdowns such as the one from this week are not unusual in Florida where police and regulators have been working hard on limiting the impact these businesses have on local communities.
Earlier this month, five people were arrested in a separate bust involving 60 illegal gambling machines following a similar multi-agency collaboration.
