Sergeant Praises Response of Casino Staff After Shooting Incident Near Courthouse

The event happened around 5 a.m. when the victim stood near the east entrance of the Ottawa Street parking deck close to the Will County Courthouse, reported Shaw Local. Joliet Police Sergeant Dwayne English said the man took bullets in both legs after a fight with the suspect got worse. The shooter came from a nearby alley, fired several shots, and then ran away.

Despite his injuries, the victim walked through the parking deck and got to Harrah’s Casino at 151 N. Joliet Street. Casino staff saw the hurt man and took quick action. They told local authorities about what happened and gave him first aid until emergency medical services showed up. Joliet Fire Department staff then took the man to Ascension Saint Joseph Medical Center. His injuries are not life-threatening, and doctors think he will get better.

Sergeant English commended the casino staff for their fast action pointing out that their speed helped the victim get medical care. According to the Sergeant, the shooting was targeted. He also mentioned that the probe was in its early days and police are actively looking for the suspect.

Harrah’s Casino Plays Crucial Role in Assisting Shooting Victim

Harrah’s Joliet Casino, though not where the shooting happened, became a key spot for saving the victim. The casino’s closeness and its workers’ watchfulness played a key role following the violent event. This case shows how important it is for communities to be ready and how local businesses can play a big part when emergencies happen.

The gunfire near the Ottawa Street parking deck is linked to a recent rise in shootings in Joliet. Earlier that day, another incident took place at the Fairfield Inn on Riverboat Center Drive. Hotel employees called 911 when they heard several gunshots.

While police did not find any victims, they discovered signs of the shooting in the parking area. Over the past seven days, Joliet has experienced six shootings raising worry among local people. The city’s police force is asking anyone who knows something or has video of these events to speak up.
